NSAA Boys Class C State Golf Championship was one to remember
On May 21 & 22, 2024, Columbus/Platte County was proud to host this year’s NSAA Boys Class C State Golf Championships at Elks Country Club. Volunteers from across the county stepped up to make the event a success.
“With all the weather-related events that occurred, the volunteers were very supportive, flexible and patient as we continuously made changes,” stated Theresa Grape, Columbus Area Convention & Visitors Bureau director. “We could not have asked for more from our volunteers and are very appreciative of their service.”
The Columbus Area Convention & Visitors Bureau bears the costs of meals, hospitality, lodging and mileage for the opportunity to host. To lessen the financial impact, local businesses sponsored the event.
Thank you to our Platinum sponsors, Cargill Columbus, B-D Construction and Columbus Community Hospital for their generous donations. Gene Steffy Ford, Big Apple Bagels, Runza, Al Niedbalski, Mike Greiner’s National Mattress & Furniture Warehouse, Axe in the Box, Husker Steak House, Columbus Credit Services and First Nebraska Bank also contributed funds for the event. Culligan Water, Hy-Vee and Super Saver each donated food and beverage items. Elks Country Club and their staff also deserve a round of applause for all their efforts to ensure a quality tournament.
Day one of the tournament was deemed unplayable with the amount of rain and storms in the area. Elks Country Club made every effort to get the course ready but unfortunately the rain and lightning won.
Following the events of day one, NSAA planned an 11:00 am start and ultimately made the tournament a one-day event. Ninety-eight golfers from surrounding communities took the course along with their coaches, family and friends which turned into a great day of golf.
Columbus was also awarded the NSAA Class D Boys Golf Championship for 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028. Prior to the flood of 2019, Quail Run Golf Course was home to the championships and now it is returning to this course. We are very excited and are always looking for volunteers! If you are interested, please reach out to the Visitors Bureau to be added to the contact list.
