The annual Norm Manstedt Wrestling Tournament wrapped up last week at the Columbus Fieldhouse! The tournament hosted 645 ladies grappling and making a statement for girls wrestling! Class A Girls overall winner was Norfolk while Adams Central dominated for the Girls Class B division.
On Friday and Saturday, 342 boys took to the mat and made a huge impact as well. Columbus Discoverers brought their A game and won the tournament with five wrestlers making it to the top of the podium! Go Discoverers!
Overall, that is just under 1000 athletes who participated in Columbus. Not only were there athletes, but coaches, managers, trainers, parents, grandparents, friends and more who came to our community! Some of the cities included Valentine, Gering, Harvard, Red Cloud, Ord, Pierce, Kearney, Omaha, Lincoln, Aurora and so many others! This makes for a HUGE impact on our economy!
House Sips kept busy each day fulfilling orders with a never-ending line – especially for the ladies tournament. A huge thank you to our volunteers: Chuck Sahs, Prent Roth, Annette Hash, Ed Brezenski, Russ Kuhn and Carrie Kuhlman as well as Karen Schlautman, my valued partner in crime. Also, kudos to the Fieldhouse staff [Rob, Danica, Phil, CCH trainers, housekeeping, concession volunteers], Norm Manstedt and the High Plains School staff and volunteers!
Special thank you to the Columbus High Soccer team for their help in cleaning the facility at the end of Thursday and Saturday of the tournament. Let’s not forget the plethora of sponsors who supported the event as well! I am sure I may have missed someone but please know your impact was definiitely important and appreciated! Without this collaboration, we could not make this happen. Here’s to next year’s continued success!
