Villasur Expedition Memorial
The Villasur Expedition memorializes the ill-fated 1720 Spanish mission led by Pedro de Villasur into Nebraska intended to counter French influence but ending in a devastating ambush by Pawnee and Otoe warriors near the Loup and Platte Rivers marking the deepest Spanish penetration into the Plains and ending their expansion in the region commemorated by markers and museum displays including a famous hide painting.
